- In my own words:
I am a former athlete, marathon runner (9); boxer and fitness enthusiast. I was training for my 10th marathon in 2019 and had a physical and a colonoscopy that determined
I had Stage IIA colorectal cancer. I was told that all was good and prognosis looked good for a full recovery with no colostomy. There were some issues with my first surgery and the cancer spread and became Stage IV. I am still battling and prognosis is still relatively good. However, due to my issues with my 1st surgery I was told that I needed a colostomy in 9/20. I am fairing well with it and have accepted it. For someone who has been proud of their body my whole life the adjustment and acceptance of my new reality took a few weeks: But I will chose an ostomy over beating cancer and increasing my chances of same. Intimacy has been difficult for me and trying to work through those issues that is why I am on this site. To meet people who understand what I am dealing with.
